For the month of December the Character Education theme was kindness and caring.  Sometimes it’s hard to find someone who will always do the right thing and be here for everyone.  Kind people are people to rely on and who you should surround yourself with.  The winners come to no surprise as they show how we should treat others.

Cheyenne Osborne, a sophomore, was surprised and overjoyed when she found out she had earned the title of December Student of the Month; she said, “I just try to be friends with everyone.  I’ve been in people’s shoes who have been bullied, and I know how it feels.  How would you feel being alone?  It feels amazing being labeled as a kind and caring person because it makes me feel true.  I want people to trust me and know I’m here for them.  If I’m being honest, I don’t see kindness too often at school and that’s what makes me want to be more friendly.  A place where you can find kindness can be hospitals, or shelters, people that are in need.  I’m just trying to spread happiness.”

Another student who shows kindness is, Ricky White, a junior, who said, “Winning student of the month made me feel like a good person.  Every now and then I see kindness here at Graham, but I want to be an example.  The way I look at it is you never know what a person has going on in their life.  You may be their only source of kindness, so make someone’s day.  Changing just one person’s day would be worth it.  Just look at the Salvation Army or churches, those are places that show how kind people can be.  We should do what we can to help people and you will get a great feeling in return.”

The students at GHS that get picked to be student of the month are great leaders and have character traits we can all learn from.  For the month of January, we should demonstrate commitment around our school.
