On Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, 2018, students from FBLA went to the state competition in Reston, Virginia. While there, students attended business sessions, received tips from a motivational speaker, and visited several monuments in Washington D. C.,

Sam Shoemaker, a senior at GHS, took first place in Business Calculations. Junior, Preston Nipper, won second place in his category of Personal Finance. Laurel Romano, a senior, placed fourth in Insurance Risk and Management. Sam went on the nationals.

Junior Preston Nipper says, “I enjoyed every part of the trip.” Preston is a two year FBLA member, and he plans to be a member next year as well. Going into the competition he says that he was really nervous. For his category, he had to answer questions about personal finance. Preston says that it felt really great to earn second place.

FBLA sponsor, Ms. McGinnis, says the trip was important because “not only does it teach the students business skills, but it also gives life skills, and it was a great trip.”

FBLA is a great club that gives students many opportunities to learn business and life skills. Students have many opportunities to compete to show their skill level.
