The cheer team traveled to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the UCA National Cheer Competition

in the beginning of February. This season has been the first year the team has competed in UCA Competitions. Graham received a bid while at the regional competition in early December. The bid made it possible for the team to be able to compete in the nationals. They competed a routine that mainly consisted of sideline cheers or things the team would do at football games. Thanks to donating  members of the community, the trip was fully funded. While the team was not competing, they got to spend time in all the Disney parks. Graham competed against 42 teams and placed 28 for their first time in the competition.

“It has been my first year cheering, and I really enjoyed the new competition,” said sophomore Lindsey Billips. “Florida was so much fun, I loved going to the parks with the team,” said Billips.

“I have cheered at the high school for three years, and I’m really glad I got to be on the first team to ever go to a national competition from Graham,” said junior Isabella Edwards. “The parks were so much fun, and I’m glad I got to enjoy them with my team,” said Edwards. She said she enjoyed competing with the team, but also had a lot of fun hanging out at the hotel with everyone. “I’ve been injured this season, but I’m so glad I got to watch the team compete,” said junior Laken Chronister. She attended both regional and national competitions. “Coming to the practices and being able to help out with the routine was really fun,” said Chronister. She is excited to be back next year and competing.

The trip was a big deal for the team, which is hoping to return to the competition in years to come. Overall the team had a lot of fun on the trip and are excited for next season.
