The students of Mr.Hayes’ economics and personal finance classes started their stock project on February 28, 2019. During the project, the students interact with the stock market in real time. The students use the website, www.howthemarketworks.com. The website changes as the stock market does. It gives each student $1,000,000 to buy and trade stocks with. The project ends on April 12, 2019.

“I enjoy the stock project because it helps me understand how the market works. It also opened up a career choice that I never thought about,” said junior Shravan Jenga. Mr. Hayes said that students respond well to the project because it connects the lesson to the real world.

Jenna Bowling, a junior in Mr. Hayes’ sixth period, has bought a number of diverse stocks, such as Nike, Facebook, and ExxonMobil. Overall Jenna has made a sizable profit and is ranked eighth in the class. Currently, Mr.Hayes is ranked first.

This project is a lot of fun for students and gives perspective on how the market really works. It is difficult to understand a lesson that most students have never had any experience with. This project makes stocks fall into place.
