Halftime show triggers backlash

The Super Bowl LIV game was played on February 2, 2020. It was held at Hard Rock Stadium  in Miami Gardens, Florida at 6:30 p.m. EST. The score was 20 (San Francisco 49ers) to 31 (Kansas City Chiefs). The halftime show featured performances from Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. Demi Lovato performed the National Anthem. The cost of commercials was $5.6 million.

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the NFL played between mid January and early February. It was created by an agreement between the NFL and its rival the AFL. The first game was on January 15, 1967 after both leagues had completed their seasons. All of this information is according to Wikipedia.

The halftime show this year was co-headlined by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. Special guests of this show included J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and Emme Muñiz. This show had a positive and negative effect in the media. Some felt it was a good performance with a lot of respect to different cultures such as Latin American culture. Others felt it was vulgar and that it over sexualized the women that were performing.

Mr. Matt Dixon thinks that the halftime show this year was very controversial. “It sparked a lot of comments on social media. We even had comments in my household between my wife and I,” he says. He stated that there’s “two different sides” to this situation. One was whether it should be on TV or not with children watching. The other is the culture with the Women’s Rights Movement. He thinks that those were the two sides.

Ms. Courtney Oxford stated that she doesn’t have the normal take that everyone else has. She viewed it as two performers who are good at what they do. “Was the dancing a little vulgar? Maybe. But they’re performers, it’s what they do,” she says.

Mr. Jason Hayes said that the halftime show “is what it is.” “It’s a bunch of performers singing music like it always has been,” he says.

The Super Bowl LIV marked 50 years since the last time the Kansas City Chiefs won. Their score was 31. Dixon was rooting for the Chiefs. “I was really happy to see Andy Reid win the Super Bowl as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs,” he said. He thinks that this will surely get Reid into the Hall of Fame one day.

Hayes, however, was rooting for the San Francisco 49ers. “I’m a longtime fan. Anytime a sports team doesn’t win or pull through, it’s very heartbreaking,” he said. He thinks that the Chiefs had a great season though. Oxford was secretly for the Chiefs. She thinks that they deserved their win, from what she heard.

The Super Bowl LIV was indeed an eventful game and will be remembered. The Chiefs made their triumphant comeback and several performers made their mark during the halftime show. Maybe the San Francisco 49ers will build themselves back up next year.
